Introduction
Plant Pathology Division is one of the disciplinary
divisions under National Agriculture Research Institute
(NARI), Nepal Agricultural Council (NARC). The Division
established in 1959 under the Department of Agriculture
of the Government came under the NARC since its establishment
in 1991.
Objectives
The main objectives of the Division are:
- To generate suitable and appropriate technologies
for disease management in agricultural crops by
conducting plant pathological researches in different
aspects as:
- survey and surveillance of major diseases
of mandate crops of NARC with a view to know
occurrence, distribution epidemics and crop
losses
- Studies on biology of pathogens causing diseases
of crop plants, host range, host-pathogen interactios
epidemiology and effects of various factors
on pathogens and disease in crop plants,
- studies on genetics of disease resistance
on major crop plants,
- studies on uses of different cultural, biological
agents and traditional practices to manage diseases
in the farmers' field,
- studies on judicious use of effective, environmentally
safe and economically viable chemicals to manage
plant diseases occuring in the country
- To coordinate national crop research programs,
regional and agriculture research stations with
regards to plant pathological problems and their
management through comprehensive researches
- To establish linkages with concerned national
and international organizations to strengthen plant
pathological research activities,
- To render services to farmers, government agencies
and concerned institutions by identifying disease
problems and providing timely advices to help manage
them
