New Varieties of Maize, Potato, Lentil and Chickpea Released

The 39th meeting of National Seed Board of Nepal that met on 6th of Poush, 2065 (Dec. 21, 2008) officially released two varieties each of maize, potato, lentil and chickpea for farmers to cultivate at different agro-ecological regions of the country. All these varieties were developed with complete package of production packages by the respective commodity research programs of NARC after 7-10 years of research and experiments at different research stations and farmers' fields in different parts of Nepal. The released varieties are Manakamana-4 and Poshilo Makai-1 of maize; Khumal Laxmi and IPY-8 of potato; Maheshwor Bharati and Sagun of lentil and Tara and Avrodhi of chickpea. The details characteristics of newly released varieties are depicted in table 1-4.
